Parent Letter Jan 20, 2010

Dear Parents,

I am in awe of the generosity and caring shown by yours and your children’s donations to our “Haitian project”. The call to stand with the poor and those in need shines brightly in our school family. A check will be written from the Home-School account to reflect your donations of $2460.05. In addition to this financial contribution our student council through the funds raised with bake sales has purchased 200 seedlings, 3 flocks of chickens, 2 goats and a pig to be sent to the people of Haiti (at the appropriate time) through the Heifer Project. I know that along with these donations the ultimate gift of prayer is a constant for all those left homeless, injured, and in sorrow due to the losses the Haitian people are suffering. Please continue to hold all of these people in your prayers. In the words of Scripture, “The gift we have received, we must now give.”

This week our students will receive the benefits of a visit from the Mystic Aquarium. Each class will have the opportunity for a hands-on classroom visit this Thursday and Friday. This has been funded through grants.

I remind you that everyone is being asked to go the clickyes.com to register for St. Joseph School. This is part of the Catholic Alumni Partnership, also funded through a grant, donated by a New York philanthropist. The entire project thus far has been paid for by the friend of Catholic elementary education for all of New York and Connecticut. At this point donations amounting to approximately $1300 have come through this fund to our school. The next stage of the project will begin in March and involve those capable of larger contributions. By clicking on clickyes.com you are only registering as affiliated with a Catholic elementary school, specifically St. Joseph, New London. There is no financial obligation attached to this. Thank you for your continued assistance in this project.

Catholic Schools Week begins on January 31st with our annual breakfast and book fair. We are in need of helpers for the breakfast book fair, and raffle items for the raffle table. Please consult the official schedule for the week for additional information regarding activities for Catholic Schools Week.

Our 4th and 5th grade parents are invited to a special informational meeting regarding our middle grade program and curriculum. This has been scheduled for Tuesday, January 26th. This gathering to will provide information regarding the ambitious nature of our middle grade program. Teachers will also be available to answer your questions. We are very proud of those who complete their K through 8th grade education at St. Joseph School, and we are proud of their continued accomplishments. They leave us well prepared for their high school experience and beyond.

Please continue to keep us in your prayers, as you are in ours daily.

Sincerely, Marianne Cote Principal
